Stay on top of the trends with fashion jewelry
The styles used to make fashion jewelry have changed quite a bit over the year, but what has not changed is people’s desire to use fashion jewelry to make a statement. People want to be noticed and want to be wearing the most beautiful, trendiest things around. This is why jewelry craftsmen never have a slow day!
The fact that we as a society have advanced technologically has had quite an impact on the making of fashion jewelry. One aspect that can easily be noticed is the fact that many pieces have become more elaborate and intricately designed. Also, because more manufacturing is being done using machines, there has been an upward movement towards custom, one of a kind pieces.
Among other things that have changed are the types of materials used to make fashion jewelry. Many pieces are made with a gold overlay now instead of pure gold. This is done by creating the jewelry from a base metal, which is generally tougher, and then covering it with a plating made of gold. Another new metal that is often used is titanium. This is actually an extremely fashionable trend in recent months. Titanium can come in a variety of color tones and is extremely durable. The quality and the popularity have made it the metal of choice for many.
The news and trends of the times can have an important impact on fashion jewelry. Remember, for instance, the peace symbols of the 1960s. They were found all over in the world of fashion jewelry and served to reflect the passions and ideals of that time period. Along those same lines are the large “flower power” designs that were also very evident. These items were trendy, but we can see them creeping back into view as similar styles of clothing make their way back on to the runways and into our lives.
At times, the fashion jewelry industry has seen stones change with the times. However, many of the “classics” remain constant. Pearls and diamonds have seen little decline in popularity. In fact, most every woman owns at least one diamond item, and there was a time when no decent woman would be caught dead without a string of pearls in her jewelry box. It is interesting to note, though, that pearls did not really start to be popular until some time around the 1950s. Prior to that, pearls and beads had been reserved for the Flappers.
So, as can be seen, fashion jewelry has changed with the changing of the times. Many items of long ago are now collector’s items, while others are just another piece of costume jewelry that clutters grandma’s vanity. The popularity of pieces will ebb and flow with society’s changes. What is popular at one time may not be popular a few months later, and some pieces that one would expect to be keepsakes and collector’s items are often nothing more than good yard sale money makers. But do not despair – this is why jewelers created inexpensive fashion jewelry in the first place – so we can buy it now, wear it for a while, and not feel guilty about tossing it out when it is not the hottest piece around anymore.
What, then, is in store for us this year? Or next year? Or next decade? We now see innumerable ear piercings and piercings in a variety of body parts, so you may think we have seen it all. However, you can almost be certain in saying that the people who determine what is trendy already have something new in mind for the world of fashion jewelry.
